This structure is located on Parkwood Springs, near Kelham Island where Ski Village used to be before it was burned down 3 times in 2012. It is the city's country park located right by my home. It includes this beautiful old construct that we used to play on as children. Now, it is a wonderful location to look out to view the different parts of the city. It's a beautiful location, and the park is wonderful for walks. This is where I usually run, and other individuals walk their dogs here too. I cannot find much history on this construct specifically; however, I believe it's currently used for the Beacons Lantern Procession.
Every year the city council provides materials with local artists' help so that both children and adults can make spectacular lanterns that light the night sky and parade them through the woodland on Parkwood Springs as the dusk falls, with support from Christ Church, Pitsmoor. They also engage in music, acting and fire after daylight. Additionally, they have placed the mysterious sculpture on Shirecliffe Road that is designed to represent the site's history and get people's attention from the road. It has a deer head to signify the use of the park as a deer park.
It is a strange representation of the site's history. The statue resembles the deity the Knights Templar accused of worship, which was subsequently incorporated into occult and mystical traditions. So, the statue is eye-catching.
In Sheffield Cathedral, the 'James Montgomery' statue is designed to represent the Scottish-born hymn writer, poet, and editor. His writings reflected concern for humanitarian causes, such as the abolition of slavery. So, there are some interesting statues dotted around the Sheffield area.
This park's side is where people living in my area can park their cars to get access to the park (except if you are 10 years old and you jump over the fence with your friends).
We had barbecues in this park with our church, Victory Assembly in the summertime which created a wonderful atmosphere in the park, full of laughter, sharing and care.
